A beaming Nick Edwards predicted a bright future for Idodinus PP after the rider celebrated another memorable success at the Hartpury Showjumping Spectacular today.
There was no mistaking his joy upon taking his tally to three wins over the three days with first place in the Breeders Elite Studbook 5-Year-Old Final aboard the youngster.
“He’s so consistent and he tries so hard,” said Nick, who had already claimed two wins aboard Elastique. “He’s not big, only about 16 hands, but he’s got a big heart.
“I’m so pleased for him today, absolutely over the moon.
“He’s the best young horse I’ve ever had and I feel very lucky to have him – hopefully he’s got a big future ahead of him.”
After receiving his winner’s prize from Breeders Elite director Henk Minderman, Nick added: “The courses have been lovely here all weekend. I absolutely love this show, and what Hartpury and Henk are doing is fantastic.
“We competed at this event last year and it was brilliant, so as soon as the weekend ended it was in my calendar right away to come again this year.”
Helen Rees was delighted with Smirnoff AP Silvio after sealing victory in the Shaw Farm Stud 4-Year-Old Final.
“This class being for ‘speed’ horses, it suits the smaller horses more than the bigger four-year-olds and luckily my horse is quite small,” she said. “I love it here at Hartpury, it has fantastic facilities.”
Josh Hutchins tasted victory riding Billy Kiara for the Billy Stud, the successful venture run by the illustrious riding duo of Will and Pippa Funnell and Donal Barwell, in the Breeders Elite Studbook 6-Year-Old Final.
“She’s jumping really well and she’s got lots of quality – she’s coming into her own now,” said Josh.
“For me, it’s brilliant to be working with riders like Will and Pippa. They’re both very professional and keep me improving all the time. I feel very lucky to be working with riders like that.”
The very same Will Funnell celebrated a victory of his own as Billy Kodak clicked into winning form in the Equitop Myoplast Senior Foxhunter, while Julian Mincher and Calista III went best in the Voltaire Design 1.20m Open.
Kathryn Ellison’s visit to Hartpury proved profitable as she went home with first prize for winning the National 1.30m Open aboard Hanleen Sultis.
The final class in the International Arena, the National 1.40m Open, produced another impressive performance to round off the Showjumping Spectacular in style.
Mennell Watson and Whisper In the Wind jumped well and were quick across the ground, setting a time that none of their rivals was able to match.
It was a good day in the Hartpury Arena for Hartpury student Shannon Snow as she topped the standings riding Croft Elite Prospect in the KBIS Insurance Senior British Novice and Senior 90cm Open.
Samantha Kellett and V Ramzes Z took the Dodson & Horrell 1.05m National Amateur Championship Qualifier, while Caitlin Hamilton and Darcos Chikara won the Dodson & Horrell 1.10m National Amateur Championships Qualifier and Senior 1.10m Open.
Amy Taylor claimed top spot in the Nupafeed Supplements Senior Discovery and Senior 1.00m Open, and Charlotte Doel gained another success in the Connolly’s Red Mills Senior Newcomers, aboard Mockershill Buster.
